Is Email Marketing Losing Grounds To Social Media Marketing?

Email Marketing

The success of email marketing or social media marketing greatly depends on the business niche. There is definitely a rise in the numbers of people using social media sites such as YouTube, Facebook and twitter but the question is how far it is generating business. It cannot be said that one is losing ground over the other just because the number of users have increased.

Email marketing, though a traditional marketing strategy, is continuing to show its success at par with novel marketing strategies such as social media marketing. The success of a specific marketing strategy entirely depends on the smartness of the marketer. Here is an account of effectiveness of each of these marketing strategies.

Email marketing is generating more business as compared to social media marketing:

Marketing emails sent to customers are generally viewed within a few hours of sending them. But, on-demand videos loaded into YouTube may or may not be viewed at such fast pace. Similarly, social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter are also not renowned to generate sales at a rate comparable to email marketing. An effective and powerful email offering the needed product descriptions and other relevant information definitely encourages the reader to visit the sales page increasing the chances for purchase.

The advent of mobile devices has even increased the efficiency of emails in generating sales. Mobile devices enable readers to read the emails even on the go as it would take a very short time to read email than viewing a video. The rise in smartphone usage is making it essential for marketers to compose emails that are effective and attractive to view on a short screen.

So, a poorly designed email would make you lose a huge customer base. It would then encourage the customers to prefer the latest tools involving social media. Thus, it can be said that efficiently managed email marketing continues to remain as a prominent marketing tool compared to social media marketing.

Email is more personal compared to social media which is crucial for sales transactions:

Email Marketing Strategies

The majority of the business personnel avoid using social media due to lack of privacy. Whenever, a transaction has to be made the needed information would be sent via an email than through social media sites. Again, the email looks dominant over social media.

Email marketing enables to build relationship with customers

Some business personnel prefer email to interact and build relationship with customers. Very few businesses use social media to obtain customer base. Email helps to develop a one-to-one relationship. Hence, social media is considered secondary in building relationships.

Email helps retain customers

As the person is contacted directly with email address it is possible to contact the customer repeatedly. The customer would also acknowledge the emails as the email would be sent to the personal inbox. But, posting a message on social media sites is completely different.

People visit social media sites just to interact with friends, watch some funny videos or play a game but not to view marketing messages. This would not happen even if the customer loves to know more about your products. Another drawback of social media usage is text posted on social media sites is not personal and would involve many other people increasing the chances of missing the message.

Lastly, it can be said that social media sites are ideal for drawing customer attention and engaging them but not for generating sales. An intelligent marketer would use social media to grab customer base and email marketing to promote sales. Each of the marketing strategies has their own values, benefits and ease of usage that are hard to compensate by the other strategy.
