Baidu Eye Is the New Google Glass Competitor
Google Glass may soon have a competitor in the market. Chinese internet provider Baidu might soon launch its own version of Google Glass. The wearable has been named as Baidu Eye. The idea of the device was first announced early last year. The device has been demonstrated at Baidu world conference held in Beijing. The Chinese version of the Google glass competitor has become an object of comparison since its announcement.
Though it has been in constant comparison, the recent demonstration by the makers has revealed the Google Glass competitor is quite dissimilar than the original Glass. Google Glass is front mounted. Baidu eye is mounted to your head from the back. It looks similar to a mounted headphone. It has a small ear-bud built in the left arm. This can be used to listen to music or during calls.
The right arm ends with a camera attached to it. This camera can be used to take photos and record videos. The camera can also be used as a scanning device. It also analyses objects surrounding the wearer. It then generates information of the environment to the wearer’s Smartphone.
The Google Glass competitor, unlike the original, does not have a display screen. In a Google Glass we find a small display screen mounted on the top right of the Glass. Baidu Eye does not have any such interactive screen. It interacts with the wearer directly through the connected Smartphone or tablet. Makers of the device have their own theory for dismissing the screen.
The Director of International Communication of the company Kaiser Kuo said, “We found that screens impair vision and tire your eyes easily.” The makers also claimed that the elimination of a screen makes the device much lighter in weight. The battery life is also elongated because of the exclusion of screen.
The Google Glass competitor recognizes Mandarin, one of the prime languages spoken in China. It also supports image search, gesture movement and voice command. It can also analyze various products from the online shopping sites.
The Google Glass competitor is still in the beta stage. The makers have not yet made any announcement regarding the price. The official launch date too is undeclared.
