How To Improve Your Wi-Fi Connection?

Wireless connection is an amazing technology that lets you access internet even when you are not physically connected to any particular device. Wi-Fi is one such thing that lets you connect multiple devices at ones and that too without wires and cables. But one of the most common problems is dead zones, no wireless signal etc. When it comes to wireless signals two main factors affect the most, one is range and the other is speed. Both are depended upon the service provider. However, at times you will notice that when the system is right next to the router it performs nicely but there is no signal 10 feet away. That is quite normal, but when you do not get any signal being in the same room as that of the router then there is a problem and you will have to address it.

Here’s how you can improve your Wi-Fi connection

Position of the router– Make sure to use a unique wireless channel with limited interface especially when there are other routers around. The router should be centrally located and must be placed in a flat surface. It’s best to place it above the ground level as the signal travels downwards so when the router is on a higher surface the signals will travel in a better way. Do not place it near phones or microwaves as that may tamper with the signal.

Change the antenna– you must choose the antenna according to the place where the router will be placed. If the area is small and you do not need coverage all over the place then go for a unidirectional “high-gain” antenna that spreads the signal to a specific direction instead of spreading it all over line an Omni-directional one. However, the purpose of Wi-Fi is to let help you get the connection around a particular area so if you do not want an omni-directional signal it is better to check out other options.

Wireless repeater– this is helpful when there are several devices sharing the same router. It takes an existing signal from a wireless router and rebroadcasts it to create a second network. Hence it is the best and the safest way to boost the signal. When it comes to placing the repeater make sure not to place it too far from the router as it won’t get proper signals to retransmit. So keep the router and repeater close. However, there are routers that can be configured as a repeater too, so by spending a few extra bucks you will get a more powerful router but in case you already have one then a repeater is the best option for you.

Upgrade Frimware– Router manufacturers publish firmware updates and by updating your router you will provide a performance boost and you will also get access to new features. You can also install a third party firmware.

Apart from there are certain homemade improvement tips that can be used to improve the signal like turning your empty beer can into a tool to improve signal. It is recommended to reboot the router once in two days so that you receive proper signal. At times the usage also matters if you keep downloading or stream videos then your connection will be slow so it’s best to limit them.
