How To Work Faster On Your Computer With Keyboard Shortcuts

Believe it or not, keyboard is the fastest way to operate your computer. If you are aware of all the keyboard shortcuts then it becomes a lot easier to operate your PC. When the OS is different the shortcuts on your keyboard will change. A comparative study will help you understand them better:

 

Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

General shortcuts

If you are searching for the file menu then you have to press Alt+F, or F10 then F.

For edit menu you will have to press Alt+E.

In order to view menu Alt+V will take you to right place.

If you have made a mistake and want to undo it then you have to press Ctrl+Z or Alt+backspace.

Again, if you want to redo the last operation you will have to press Ctrl+Y, or Shift+Alt+Backspace.

In order to cut or copy the selection and store it in the clipboard you have to press Ctrl+X and Ctrl+C respectively.On the other hand, to paste contents of clipboard at cursor type Ctrl+V.

Navigation shortcuts  

To get a new browser window with same page as current you need to type Ctrl+N. In order to open new folder Ctrl+Shft+N will help.

If you are searching for application menu just press the windows buttons or Ctrl+Esc.

When you leave your seat do not forget to lock the screen with the help of Win+L button.

Power management

Tab Management

If you want to open a new tab Ctrl+T can help you.

On trying to close the tab you can press on control button and then W.

In order to next tab or to the previous tab you can press on the Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab respectively.

To reopen the previously closed tab or windows just press Ctrl+Shift+T and Ctrl+Shift+N in that order.

Window Management

To pop up the window menu just click on Atl+Space.

In order to closed focused window press Alt+F4 or Ctrl+F4 or Ctrl+W

To restore the focused window to its previous size type Alt+Space and then the R key.

In order to move the focused window type Alt+Space+M+Allow Keys and Enter (to save location). If you want to resize the focused focus u have do exactly as the above except change the M button by S.

To minimize the focused window you will have to press Alt+Space then N and similarly to maximize the focused window you have to do the same, just change N by X key button.

General shortcuts

To open the file menu type on the Ctrl button then F2 and finally F (you will need full keyboard access active, using System Preferences>Keyboard>keyboard shortcuts>full Keyboard access>all controls. You can also use Ctrl+F7 to toggle the settings.)

In order to edit the menu type Ctrl+F2 and then E.

To view the menu you will have to click Ctrl+F2 and then V.

If you want to undo the last operation Cmd+z will help you.

To redo the last operation you will have to click on Shift+Cmd+Z.

To cut and copy the selection and store it in the clipboard you will have to press Cmd+X or Cmd+C respectively.

When you want to paste the copied or cut selection you will have to press the Cmd then V.

To open a new folder press Shift+Cmd+N.

Locking the screen is of a longer process in Mac, Ctrl+Shift+Eject

On the other hand showing desktop is easier in Mac, just press F11 that’s it.

In order to log out you have to press Shift+Cmd+Q.

Power Management

To put your computer on sleeping mode you need to press Opt+Cmd+Eject.

To turn the computer off you have to follow this very simple step, just press Ctrl+Opt+Cmd+Eject. There is no confirmation needed it directly shuts down.

Again to restart its Ctrl+Cmd+Eject.

Sleep mode is Ctrl+Cmd+Eject.

Tab Management

To open new tab just press Cmd+T, similarly to close tab Cmd+W.

If you wish to close all the tabs except the recent one press Cmd+Opt+t (safari).

To go to the next tab its Ctrl+Tab and to go to the previous tab it is Shift+Ctrl+Tab.

Windows Management

To close the focused window press Cmd+W.

To hide the focused window Cmd+H will help.

To hide all the windows except the focused one press Cmd+Option+H.

To minimize the focused window you have to press Cmd+M and to maximum Cmd+L.
