Today is a big day for the entire professional network as Microsoft announced that it is going to acquire LinkedIn, the number one professional network on the Globe for $26.2 billion. The Microsoft LinkedIn deal is all set to close this year itself. Both the boards have unanimously agreed to the proposal and a call will be generated later today to discuss the deal. The entire transaction will be in cash. Microsoft also made it pretty clear that LinkedIn will retain its brand identity and the current CEO Jeff Weiner is going to stay on post. But now, he is going to report to Satya Nadella, the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft.

The world’s biggest professional network experienced a drastic increase of 48% in its share prices after the announcement. According to Satya Nadella, this Microsoft LinkedIn deal will help both the companies to augment their growth benefiting Microsoft Office 365 and Dynamics in the process. He plans to empower the entire professional network on Earth by providing the best resources with the help of the social media platform. This is CEO Satya Nadella’s largest acquisition since he joined office some two years back. Its previous acquisition of Yammer in 2012 did not perform as expected but LinkedIn, with its 433 million users worldwide is surely going to make a difference to the company on the whole.
