Organic Rankings Are Affected By Website Engagement Rates: Yes Or No

Organic Rankings

Yes, organic CTR is definitely important for your rankings. Google does count the time web users spend on your site. If you can engage maximum number of users with attractive content, chances are, your organic rankings should also improve drastically. But this is no direct ranking algorithm that you can take advantage of to increase your position in the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs).

But as you know, many indirect efforts also impact your search engine rankings to a great extent and this is one of them. However, positive web engagement matters more than Click Through Rates. There is no point if users come to your website but they do not stay for more than a few seconds. This post will highlight the relationship between website engagement and organic rankings to provide you with an idea of how you can increase your position in the search results.

Google does keep a track of how much time users are spending on your site to rank your website accordingly. So, you have to plan strategies to hook more users to your site if you wish to improve your organic rankings. Although the blocked site feature is no more there, you cannot just sit back and relax. You have to take up measures to improve dwell time on your website so that Google ranks it among the top websites of your genre. But the main problem lies in the fact that we don’t have any tool to measure the dwell time for our own websites. So, what we can do is to exploit every single opportunity to enhance user engagement on our websites so that they rank well in the search engine charts.

What effect does bounce rates have on search engine ranking?

As Gary Illyes tweeted in 2015, Google does not directly link bounce rates or Analytics to website ranks. But indirectly, these two factors are important to decide your fate in the SERPs. And researches do back up the fact. Websites with low bounce rates, less than 76% to be precise, show up in ranks 1-4 in the Google charts. But if your website has more bounce rates, like something above 78%, you are unlikely to show up in the top positions. This can be explained as Google analyses bounce rates to monitor the CTR of a particular website.

If any website does not live up to the promise, users will not spend a single moment on that site, thus increasing bounce rates. Hence Google uses this factor to determine whether a site is able to attract and hook its users with top notch content. This is just a guess, but the research data do speak for it. Although we do not know the real way by which Google ranks a website on the top of search results but reducing your bounce rate is a good thing in itself. So, you should focus more on enhancing your web experience for users who land on your website.

How does dwell time affect your organic rankings?

Improve Organic Rankingd

Now, let us come to dwell time or the time users spend on your websites. Researches reveal that it does show up in your organic rankings whether users liked your site or not. Google measures dwell time but we don’t have any idea how. So, all you can do is convince your users so that they remain on your site for a sufficient period of time. But, there is no way thinking that if a user spends 1 or 2 hours on your site, you will grab the first position in the SERPs. You cannot overdo the effect that dwell time have on your organic rankings. Google just looks into the fact whether the users got what they were looking for on your site. And that affects your ranking. Again, just like bounce rates, dwell time is also used by Google to validate Click Through Rates. So it is indeed an indirect factor that influences your ranking.

How to increase conversion rates for your website?

So the bottom line is, you have to enhance user engagement to improve your ranks in the search engines. And that is possible only when you have a high conversion rate. How will you know otherwise whether users loved your website? The following tips will tell you how to increase your conversion rates to bring about some improvement in your search engine ranks:

Be clear about your products or services – Do not speak in an ambiguous tone. Users don’t like it. State the benefits clearly and enhance website navigation so that users get what they are looking for without much hassle.

Choose an eye catchy headline to attract maximum attention – Think and think hard before you select the perfect headline for your website. You can add keywords to boost performance. No matter what you do, your headline should be noticed and liked by your users so choose carefully.

Put up testimonials to instil faith in the minds of your visitors – Who would want to buy a product or opt for a service that has not been appreciated by anyone? None. So make sure to put up some testimonials on your landing pages to augment the trust factor.

Call to Action – Your content should push users to convert. Hence while developing your content, make sure that the Call to Action thing is prominent and strong. Also make your content comprehensible so that users do not have to deal with jargon.

Keep updating your site every now and then – Users likes new stuffs. They will come back to your site if they get that. So, keep updating your site with new and more valuable content to enhance user engagement. It is all the more useful if you can develop a blog for your website and keep posting on it. That will increase conversion rates as well as organic rankings to some extent.

Now, that your know what effect does user engagement have on your organic rankings, you can get on with the work at hand to develop your website into something that even the casual visitors love. If you have any other suggestions that we can add to our list, feel free to put them down in the comments section below. Your feedback is most welcome. Have a grand day at work!
