Parsey McParseface – Is This New Venture By Google A Boon To Artificial Intelligence?

Parsey McParseface

Parsey McParseface – funny name isn’t it? But, do not get carried away by its name for it is one of the most efficient Artificial Intelligence tools that Google is offering to the developers in an open source platform along with its neutral network framework SyntaxNet. That scores an A with all Artificial Intelligence app developers who will now get the chance to modify their tools and apps with the help of Google’s software and open source network.

Parsey McParseface owes its name to one of Google’s long term employees and it was a random suggestion with no reference to its functionality or capabilities whatsoever. It is a parser of the English language and will help computers to analyze the human language with its inherent complexities in English.

Science fictions depicting the intelligence of machines to understand and talk to humans are loved by all. The release of SyntaxNet on the open source platform will enable developers to build such applications in no time. Hence, it is boon to the tech world concerned with developing artificial intelligence for machines to interpret human understanding. And Google introduced Parsey McParseface as a part of this endeavor to break down and analyze the English language in its crude form. In no time, developers will be using this intelligence to build applications that understand humans and talk to them without any difficulty. Thus, the days of science fictions becoming real are not far you see. With SyntaxNet, it is going to be easier for Artificial Intelligence to expand its reach with leaps and bounds.

A brief history of Artificial Intelligence

Google Parsey McParseface

Believe it or not, AI holds its roots in Greek Mythology. There have been mentions of the heroes inventing robots to serve mankind. However, this was only fiction but in the modern world, the term was first mentioned at a conference in Dartmouth College, New Hampshire in 1956 and it was the first formal announcement of the term in history. The idea of a robotic future encouraged many scientists like Marvin Minsky, who were really enthusiastic about it. Thus, they began working towards its development and we have come a long way in Artificial Intelligence since then.

Competition between the tech giants over AI

Tech Giants like Google, IBM, Amazon and Microsoft are competing for the AI platform for quite some time. It is going to be a gala experience for the one who wins. Just like Microsoft rules the world of personal computers as its Windows has become quite popular with users, the company which will become a platform for AI will rule the world with its unique software and AI programs. Google is trying hard to beat its competitors on a global level.

How does Parsey McParseface interprets the English language?

Human language is hugely ambiguous but we seldom have any difficulty interpreting them as we are aware of the real world unlike computers. So, Google’s latest parsing tool is build to help machines understand and analyze English language to interpret it accurately. What Parsey McParseface does is understand the relation between words in a sentence and analyze them accurately to bring out the sentence’s true meaning. SyntaxNet works with hypotheses in a sentence and draws conclusion on the hypotheses that rank higher than others.

According to Google, Parsey McParseface is 94% accurate in breaking down sentences and analyzing them which is very close to the 96-97% of professional linguists. Such high percentage of accuracy can lead to a future when you will face lesser difficulties in resolving queries with the help of computers. And as Google made SyntaxNet and Parsey McParseface available to the AI developers of the world, you can dream of a future when AI will take its true form by talking to humans precisely and accurately.

We still talk to systems with the help of chat bots which is going to be enhanced over the years. If Google wins in the AI platform competition, this could mean that we are in for a treat in the tech world. Do you think Parsey McParseface, unlike its name, will achieve this mark? What other forms of AI systems do you think Google can make available for the developers? Let us know in the comments section below. For now, lets dream of a future comprising of talking machines and enjoy our day to the fullest.
