Get SoundCloud On Twitter As The Social Network Invests $70 Million In The Music Streaming Service
Early in 2014, Twitter had decided to buy the music streaming service SoundCloud but had backed away in the last minute for reasons unknown. Now again, it has showed interest in the music streaming service and invested $70 million to buy a piece of it. According to sources, it is all set to invest another $30 million in SoundCloud later on this year. The net value of SoundCloud will be about $700 million after the investment, the same amount which investors in 2014 held the company at. But it is not to be forgotten that the company has also suffered some debt since then. Seems like this all new feature of SoundCloud on Twitter is going to set things right for it, definitely because of the investment.
Although Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s current CEO refused to comment on the details of the investment, he confirmed the news that Twitter has made some investment in the music streaming service SoundCloud. Same happened in case of SoundCloud. They too refused to comment on the financial details probably because they do not wish to raise any doubts over the investment amount. A SoundCloud spokesperson said in an interview that both the platforms have similar interests in contemporary culture and this investment is going to back SoundCloud’s recently launched subscription service SoundCloud Go while keeping its focus on building maximum value for both music creators and listeners. But, what was the reason behind offering SoundCloud on Twitter? Well, it was probably because it had some interest in the community-supported approach of the music streaming service which is quite similar to that of Twitter in many ways.
Twitter’s interest in music dates back to 2013
One of the reasons behind offering SoundCloud on Twitter! Twitter launched its own music app in 2013 which was closed after a year as it did not ring many bells. After that it launched Audio Cards for iOS and Android users which lets them play music embedded in Tweets. In that its partners were SoundCloud and iTunes but Twitter had plans to integrate more music services in its audio cards. Thus, you can see that Twitter’s interest in music services dates long back and its investment in SoundCloud is nothing but a part of that interest.
How can SoundCloud make use of this investment?
SoundCloud is a wonderful music streaming service where you can upload your own music and share them across social media platforms to give them maximum exposure.
